Further information The Church seats approximately 120. The hall holds up to 130 people depending on activity. There is a meeting room which also seats 26 for the smaller meeting. An active church with 42 members. Portobello Methodist Church lies on the far Western boundary of the new Circuit and is the only one in the City of Wolverhampton. We are situated in New Street, visible from the main Willenhall- Wolverhampton Road at the junction of the Keyway (Black Country Route) The present building dates from 1966 when road widening forced the closure of the former church which dated from 1862, although there had been a Methodist presence in Portobello back from the early 1800’s.At present the church is in an area planned for major redevelopment which we hope will soon come to fruition and bring with it opportunities for Mission and Outreach.
We are a friendly, welcoming church with 42 members but have other worshippers attending each week as well, and recently have seen a small number of young people come back to church and have all found this encouraging. There is usually the one service each Sunday at 10.15am .The Church has an active relationship with the local Infants and Primary School who come and visit the Drop In at Easter and Christmas. Classes also visit our Church to take part in mock baptisms, as part of their studies, conducted by our Minster, Linda, and they enjoy the party afterwards as well.Although on the edge of the Circuit, Portobello members always try to support Circuit events and to welcome new friends to Portobello.
